I’m a Business… MAN - 2011 in Review

To follow up last year’s similar, end of the year post - I’ve done this one. It helps remind me that some shit goes right, sometimes. Though the good stuff is small and infrequent. And you have to do a lot of work to make it happen.

2011 was a good year for these reasons:

1. I start the year unemployed and ended the year… well, still unemployed. Though technically, self employed. Anyway - I made it through the year working on projects I wanted to work on - AND I didn’t starve.

2. I started a production company called Captain Hippo. I learned how to form an LLC, manage cash flow, do expense reports and learn a bunch of business-y things I probably would have never learned. It’s cool to co-own your own business.

3. That company, Captain Hippo (also a sketch group) got to work on a lot of sweet projects. We did a bunch of industrial videos (even getting flown out to LA once) and we got to shoot pilot presentations, some web-series, and plenty of sketches. Check them out here - www.captainhippo.com

Plus I get to work with some very funny and talented guys everyday.

4. I completely rewrote my TV writing packet. Two new specs, and a new pilot. I was happy with the one I had completely last year, but now I realize it sucks and I hate it. This one though, this one is the best.

5. I wrote a bunch more comedic essays. Check them all out here.

One of my essays got on McSweeney’s, another got on Splitsider, and a few other cool sites asked me to start submitting - which I never expected. Splitsider was also nice enough to include me on their list of “The Year’s Best Humor Writing.” Along with some much more talented writers.

6. Johnny Cash Money, though slowing down in our old age, is still my favorite group of drunkards to perform with.

7. My girlfriend moved in with me AND we adopted a cat. Both of them have been good additions to my apartment.

8. I got to watch my friends get funnier and smarter and cooler. I know so many talented people and I hope they continue kicking ass in 2012.

I think that’s it. Thanks to everyone who made it a good year. Now it’s time to get on my 2012 grind.
