73. Sufjan Stevens - Michigan (2003)

This Christian dude Sufjan Stevens is seriously going to record an album for every single one of the fifty states!  Isn’t that crazy?  His songs sound like a supergroup made up of Nick Drake, Thomas Jefferson, and Disney’s Goofy.  He plays the banjo real well.

My boy Dan is putting up his top 100 albums of the 00s, probably the only person I’d trust to do such a thing. I don’t share all his musical tastes, but we’re close enough.

A side note: Sufjan Stevens is a hipster but also cool. See the documentary “Danielson: A Family Movie” to see him before he was even recording music and was just sitting in with this weird ass band (where he gets a lot of his “sound” from.)
